Our history

The origin of the municipality of Gata dates back to the Muslim era, around the year 1023, being at that time a Muslim farmhouse that until 1030 had no Islamic leader, being directly linked to the King of Dénia, ABU MUYAHID.

Already in 1030 a Muslim AL BEYANADIR appeared like Islamic Head of Cat.

In 1075, 300 inhabitants lived in Gata, of which they were declining due to a cholera epidemic that caused the inhabitants to emigrate to Alcoy in search of better health conditions.
